Climate Hazards & Community Assets and Populations
Santa Barbara County is a beautiful place to live, work, visit and go to school. However, climate change Hazards will continue to threaten our community and the resources and services (called “Community Assets”) we value and depend on. Those that have fewer resources or abilities to adapt (e.g., people in poverty, mobility-impaired individuals, etc.) are often referred to as “Frontline Communities”, and will experience climate change impacts earlier and more severely. To learn more about the work completed thus far, check out our draft project interactive map that shows climate change projections, hazards, and frontline communities (Coming Soon).
Community assets, including infrastructure, public/government services, economic sectors, and natural resources we care about and rely on will also be affected by climate change. Think about the various assets you utilize in your daily life that can be disrupted by climate-related hazards. These might include electric power, water and wastewater service, schools and childcare, and the roads you rely on to get to work.
Instructions: Please share what climate-related hazards are of most concern, and will most affect you and our community. These could be hazards you have seen recently or anticipate to occur as a result of climate change. Please also share what community assets you most value and depend on that may be vulnerable to climate-related impacts.
Click the “Add Comment” button, choose the type of hazard and community asset that is most applicable, a location on the map that best reflects the location of the hazard or asset, and provide your comments.
